MUGA Construction at Ledbury Estate, Southwark

Southwark Council appointed ETC Sports Surfaces to convert a small derelict area in the middle of Ledbury Estate into a multi-use games area (MUGA) with needle punch surface from Playrite.

The project, which was funded by the local councils’ Cleaner Greener Safer programme, began in February 2017 by reopening a disused entrance that had been bricked up for some years. This was to be transformed into the main entrance for the refurbishment.
Ledbury Estate in the London Borough of Southwark was a run down and abandoned area that had been in a state of disrepair for many years. This project not only transformed the area into a refreshing new space, it also demonstrates how communities can make the most of small disused spaces by turning them into beneficial sports areas.

The newly refurbished sports area was officially opened on 20th April 2017 by the Mayor of Southwark who was joined by Millwall Academy Coach, Dean Palmer and pupils from Camelot Primary School who enjoyed using the new facilities for a quick game of football.

Cllr Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for communities and safety said: “This is a fantastic community project and a great example of how Cleaner Greener Safer funding can help bring people together and offer facilities and opportunities to play, learn and get active in their own neighbourhoods.”
