Surbiton Racket and Fitness Club Celebrates New Tennis Court Surfaces Completion
Tennis enthusiasts in Surbiton, South West London, are set to enjoy high performance play all year round, thanks to the installation of multiple tennis court surfaces by ETC Sports for Surbiton Racket and Fitness Club. Commencing in August 2017, this complex project saw our skilled main contracting team working across three sites to rejuvenate their tennis courts with porous Macadam resurfacing. The work has provided an advanced, practical and rain resistant solution to meet the needs of the club’s 1,500 plus members.
Surbiton Racket and Fitness Club’s history dates back to 1881, when it was founded as the Berrylands Lawn Tennis Club. Today, the club operates across sites in Surbiton, Beverly Park and Alexandra Park and provides extensive tennis, squash and gym facilities. Ensuring that its tennis court surfaces are equipped to stand up to the rigours of this fast-paced sport is a crucial priority for the club. As a SAPCA accredited main contractor, ETC Sports was selected to deliver these vital works due to our expertise in tennis court construction and our reputation for delivering cost-effective, low maintenance solutions to stringent time and budget parameters.
Superior Tennis Surfaces for Amateur and Professional Play
Surbiton Racket and Fitness club offers a diverse range of tennis activities throughout the year, including singles and doubles leagues, coaching, wheelchair tennis, tournaments and events. The club is also home to the prestigious Fuzion 100 Trophy Series – which, in 2018, saw a record number of spectators flock to the Surbiton site to witness top hundred tennis champions, Jeremy Chardy and Alison Riske, crowned as the competition’s overall winners. With such a broad and prestigious scope of play on offer, it’s essential that the club’s tennis court surfaces stand up to its reputation and provide optimal play, regardless of weather conditions.
After a detailed consultation with the club, ETC Sports advised the installation of Macadam tennis surfaces across all three sites. A 6mm Open Surface Course Porous Asphalt, manufactured by our trusted supplier FM Conway Ltd, provided the ideal solution – due to the ability to customise the surface to meet the demands of the most dedicated tennis players. What’s more, the surface’s fast drainage system means that the club’s new Macadam tennis courts can be enjoyed even during the wettest months of the year.
Enhancing the Courts with New Sport Fencing
To protect the comfort and safety of players and spectators alike, we also secured the new court facilities with the installation of Duo Sport Double Wire Fencing, supplied by Zaun. Designed to virtually eliminate rattle noise (a common distraction for tennis players) and adjustable to increase ball retention, this wire mesh fencing complements the new tennis courts perfectly, resulting in top of the range facilities across the club’s locations and ensuring that the club delivers on its pledge to provide outstanding tennis facilities for its members.
The final phase of the triple-location project was completed in early September 2018, upholding ETC Sports’ commitment to delivering resurfacing projects within a twelve-week period wherever possible. The result is a portfolio of facilities guaranteed to provide high performance and user satisfaction for many years to come.
