Tennis court maintenance Muswell Hill | ETC Sports Surfaces

Tennis court maintenance successfully delivered in Muswell Hill

Set in tranquil, landscaped grounds in the centre of Muswell Hill, the Muswell Hill Methodist Lawn Tennis Club has a rich history of catering for all levels of the sport up to Middlesex Premier League. The club was founded in 1920 by prominent local benefactor and keen tennis enthusiast, Guy Chester OBE. Today, run by a team of hard-working volunteers, the club prides itself on maintaining its position as one of the most successful London tennis clubs of the last decade. So, the team at ETC Sports Surfaces was naturally delighted when we were invited to take on the project of delivering tennis court maintenance works by completely relaying the surface of one of the club’s most popular courts.

We worked with the club’s committee to understand their players’ needs and, after examining the various options in tennis court surfaces, we helped them to settle on an Advantage Pro surface, manufactured by our trusted friends at Tiger Turf UK. This is a sand-filled option, replacing the club’s old rubber filled surface and providing many advantages, including wear-resistance, excellent water permeability for maximum playing time, long life expectancy and simple, cost-effective maintenance requirements. The new artificial grass surface also benefits from a unique yarn design, which doesn’t shine under floodlights or in the rain, ensuring that club members can play to the highest standard with full visibility, no matter what the weather or light conditions.

Delivering tennis court surfaces to tight time and budget constraints

With thirty years’ experience of tennis court maintenance, we understand that the priority for our clients is to maintain the highest standards of play for their members, but with minimum disruption to ongoing court use. We therefore pride ourselves on delivering all works on time and on budget – and this project was no exception, with the new court up and running within just three weeks. This tennis court resurfacing took place on a site where multiple other courts remained in use, so it was vital to uphold the highest health and safety standards and conduct our works in a manner that was sensitive to everyone using the site. As accredited members of SAPCA and CHAS (the Construction Health and Safety Scheme) we’re able to offer our clients the highest level of assurance that projects like this are in safe hands at every stage.

We’re glad to say that this client joins our portfolio of customers who are consistently delighted with the quality of our service and workmanship. Indeed, Facilities Secretary Ian Jefferies confirmed recently that: “Muswell Hill Methodist Tennis Club is very pleased with its new Tiger Turf Advantage Pro surface. Dealings with ETC Sports Surfaces was a very good experience. Their advice all the along the way made the process of procurement and installation very easy. They helped us to choose the new artificial grass surface and members are very happy with the result. The work was completed on time and on budget.”

Future-proofing tennis surfaces for a prestigious and historic club

Muswell Hill Methodist Lawn Tennis Club certainly has much to look forward to, with a new Lawn Tennis Association ‘Tennis for Kids’ programme launched in October 2018, the club’s centenary celebrations planned in July 2019, and a long waiting list of tennis enthusiasts keen to benefit from its superior court facilities. The whole team at ETC Sports Surfaces is thrilled to have played our part in safeguarding the club’s facilities for the future by delivering this tennis court resurfacing project, and we hope that members continue to enjoy this delightful tennis facility for many years to come.
